Participation of the public in the Draft Cooperative Bill

The National Co-operative Policy Ope-rationalization Task Force was established by Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Co-operatives, by Gazette Notice No. 10699 on December 16, 2020. The Task Force's mission is to initiate and construct a framework for implementing national cooperative policy interventions, reviewing cooperative legislation, reforming cooperative institutions, and building cooperative capability.

A Cooperatives Bill has been produced by the Task Force. The bill can be seen on the websites of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Co-operatives and the State Department for Co-operatives: https://www.ushirika.go.ke/.

The State Department for Cooperatives, in accordance with Article 10 of the Constitution, encourages stakeholders and members of the public to submit comments on the draft Cooperatives Bill.

The representation may be given in writing, using the specified form for public comments, and sent to coopbill.ushirika@ushirika.go.ke, or handed in-person to the Office of the Principal Secretary, NSSF Building, Block A, 17th Floor, or mailed to the undersigned by November 24, 2021, at 5:OO pm.

Furthermore, the State Department for Cooperatives invites stakeholders and members of the public to public hearings on the draft Bill, which will be held both in-person and online.
