3rd Annual Cabinet Secretary For The Ministry Of Cooperatives And Msmes Forum With Cooperative Movement Stakeholders

The Co-operative Alliance of Kenya (CAK), National Apex Organization and the voice for Kenya's Co-operative Movement, cordially invites you to participate in the 3rd. Annual Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSME’s Leaders Forum. CAK represents all registered cooperative societies under the Cooperative Societies Act drawn from: National Cooperative organizations, Cooperative Unions and Primary cooperative Societies. The individual members to these Co-operatives are over 14 million with mobilized savings of over Kshs. 750 billion or 30% of National Savings.

Our mandate is to;

  1. Strengthen the Co-operative Movement in Kenya by lobbying and advocating for favourable legal and policy environment.
  2. Representing and protecting the interests of cooperatives both locally and internationally.
  3. Enhancing collaboration, networking and the promotion of the growth and development of the Co-operative Movement.
  4. Providing a pool of shared services to its affiliates that include Technology and digital platforms, accounting and auditing as well as legal professional services in compliance with the various Acts.
  5. Promoting good governance, ethical practices, cooperative member education, research and self-regulation.

In line with our mission to foster cooperative growth, the Alliance has organized the  3rd Annual Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSME’s Consultative Leaders’ Forum to be held at Sawela Lodge, Naivasha, from 18th to 22nd November 2024.

During the consultative meeting we shall have an in-depth discussion on the following;

  1. Welcoming the new Cabinet Secretary and his team to the cooperative movement and fostering mutual collaboration.
  2. Opportunity for the Cabinet Secretary’s office to meet with all cooperative sector leaders from both the national and county governments to explain policy relevant matters, provide direction on cooperatives, and elaborate on the government's development priorities for the cooperative sector, ensuring they are well-anchored to the broader national agenda.
  3. Reviewing and discussing the structural framework of the cooperative sector to enhance its effectiveness and sustainability.
  4. Addressing key policy matters across various sub-sectors and receiving feedback from the government on the cooperative value chains
  5. Evaluating the performance of cooperatives using insights from the SASRA report, while identifying sector priorities for effective lobbying and advocacy.
  6. Identifying key challenges and pain points facing the cooperative movement, while exploring sustainable solutions to strengthen its resilience.
  7. Setting a lobby and advocacy agenda by discussing priority sub-sector escalations, alongside reviewing progress on the Cooperative Bill currently in Parliament.
