Leadership, Ethics And Governance Forum
The Cooperative Alliance of Kenya (CAK), in partnership with the Institute of Directors (Kenya), is pleased to invite you to the Ethical Leadership & Good Governance Forum, now rescheduled to take place from 2nd to 6th June 2025 at Lake Naivasha Resort
The cooperative movement in Kenya is at a pivotal moment occasioned by leadership and governance challenges as evidenced in reports on theft, misappropriation and unethical practices in some organizations in the Cooperatives sector. Granted, the sector has contributed immensely to social economic growth and development of Kenya through proactive and visionary leadership and by members embracing the Principles of Cooperatives.
However, despite the substantial impact created by cooperatives in Kenya, leadership and governance challenges threaten the sector’s long-term stability. Recent scandals in some cooperatives have eroded public trust due to perceived misappropriation of member funds, financial mismanagement, and weak oversight. This loss of credibility underscores the urgent need for ethical leadership, transparency, and a zero-tolerance policy on corruption to restore confidence in cooperative institutions. Strengthening governance structures, enforcing accountability measures, and implementing stringent financial oversight are essential in ensuring that cooperatives remain trusted institutions.
Further, to restore trust calls for proactive leadership, member engagement, and a culture of integrity, ensuring cooperatives continue to be engines of economic empowerment and social progress in Kenya. The question every leader in the cooperative sector should be asking is, “when did the rain start beating us? Are we adequately prepared and equipped to deal with this unfolding crisis? What should we do to avoid the errors and mistakes on oversight and risk management among others?”
This 5-days leadership forum organized by Cooperative Alliance of Kenya (CAK) in partnership with the Institute of Directors Kenya (IODK) is indented to help leaders in the cooperative sector to answer these questions. The leadership forum will create a platform to reflect, re-examine, analyze and engage in candid conversations on ethical and good governance practices, and on how to regain the reputation, trust and confidence of the movement and to redeem the image of Cooperatives and Cooperative leaders. The leadership forum will address the current problems faced by Cooperatives and to equip the cooperative leaders with practical approaches and decision strategies necessary to steer the cooperatives towards creating prosperity and contributing to social and economic development.
Leaders in the cooperative movement should attend the leadership forum to achieve the following outcomes:
- Strengthen Ethical Leadership – Learn practical strategies to enhance transparency, accountability, and governance in your cooperative.
